I recall my first try at simplifying a tedious invoicing activity. Ironically, I saved the invoice in an incorrect location, and I lost a full workday’s worth of work. It was a stupid error, but a prevalent human error. Once I resolved this, I saved four work hours a week with the Robotic Process Automation (RPA) tool. Moments such as these showed me that even with AI for automation, one must exercise care and review one’s work.

Machine Learning (ML) software sifts through volumes of information and identifies trends, predicts, and learns over a period of time. In a training session for a finance assignment, I trained a fraud model with a group of students. AI detected suspicious activity in payments nobody else in my group noticed. I discovered hidden gold in a sheet, and I couldn’t stop grinning with joy. Despite having coded part of my work inaccurately and having to correct it twice, it was worth it when my model began identifying real cases of fraud immediately.

Natural Language Processing (NLP) enables machines to comprehend and generate human language. I have a buddy who developed a chatbot for a small technology startup to serve in a role for customer service. Initially, it confused me—one time, it responded to development queries with recipes for dog food (yes, I’m not exaggerating!). Once it was trained with actual customer queries, it became a surprisingly effective virtual aide. I even attempted to make silly queries, such as “How can I make a phone remember it’s a phone?” to gauge whether it could manage silly conversation.

Robotic Process Automation is ideal for jobs with simple rules. For a small family bakery, I utilized an RPA tool to simplify tracking orders placed online. Previously, checking all orders took several hours (and mistakes happened with ease—one time, she delivered a red velvet cake to an incorrect address!). Today, she spends that saved time experimenting with new pastry recipes and not simply entering orders. 

Automated Analysis of Pictures and Videos

Computer Vision employs AI for real-time analysis of pictures and videos. I installed a camera system in a factory producing phone cases, together with a defects analyzer. Initially, it kept reporting “blue phone case” as an issue simply because lights were poor and the color appeared off-color. After I adjusted camera settings, the system started discovering real faults—scratches, dents, and printing mistakes—faster and more accurately than any group of humans could manage.

AI chatbots and virtual assistants serve customers 24/7. I have communicated with chatbots that assisted me at midnight when I inquired about returning a purchase. Perhaps a human employee could have been sleepy, but a chatbot always answered with a similar (occasionally over-the-top) salutation.

Supply Chain Optimizations

Machine Learning forecasts when demand increases, controls inventories, and identifies potential shipping delays. I recall one distribution site reduced delivery times in half by bypassing a congested part of a city with numerous stop lights. They discovered a routine route with numerous stop lights saw them driving through it all the time. AI proposed a new path, and delivery proceeded much quicker afterward. Even the delivery driver was surprised at how much time saved!

Finance and Accounting

AI in finance simplifies billing, watches for overspends, and identifies suspicious transactions. I received an automated message one time about an unfamiliar purchase in my corporation’s account. What happened, a marketing individual, testing a new store, purchased 100 stuffed bears for no apparent purpose. At least AI saved the day, and no one received a lot of bears at work!

Marketing and Sales

AI can analyze and group customers, and tailor marketing messages. I recall a case with a little web store and a tool for lead scoring. We discovered that visitors who visited pastel-colored items in an older campaign purchased again in a month. That helped us send individual messages, generate additional sales, and not have to send out arbitrary messages to everyone.

AI’s Role in Social Media Such as Instagram

AI is utilized in social media to present to you information that is relevant to your life. I experimented with it and, in one single day, I watched 15 minutes’ worth of goofy clips. The following morning, my timeline filled with dog grooming clips and silly skits I’d not seen anywhere else. I noticed, and it kind of frightened me, too.

Chatbots for Quick Replies

Quick replies make social media followers engaged in social platforms. I have noticed restaurants utilizing chatbots to respond to reservation queries in a quick manner, and that can actually serve to satify customers. 

Ad Targeting and Enhancement

AI identifies target groups for advertisement and helps save advertisement budgets. I began a small apparel store, and when micro-influencers who enjoyed our merchandise partnered with me, sales increased afterwards. 

Instagram and AI Automated Methods

AI in Instagram attempts to present to you whatever it perceives will make you happiest. I posted a variety of photographs—guitar instruction, technology, cooking, and felines—and saw that the algorithm hadn’t yet understood me yet. For a period, it showed me the most absurd collection of posts until I posted about felines a sequence of times in a row again. 

Object and Text Identification

AI helps locate items in a picture and present similar hashtags. I posted a picture of a pastry, and Instagram generated food labels that closely matched my picture. It even located a small brand name in the picture. 

Influencer Outreach and Analysis

AI enables brands to understand how an influencer engages with followers. I instructed a blogger acquaintance of mine to modify the way she posts. She gained followers and received positive feedback simply following AI’s guidance, even when initially skeptical about it. You can, too, gain followers from here!

Personal Reflections 

I must say, when I speak about AI, technology can only contribute part of the answer. Common sense and humans matter, too. I become a big fan when an AI tool completes a job in a timely manner, but I have discovered to double verify its work. Once, I hurried and utilized a not-yet-trained model in a real scenario, and it produced silly output. It was my fault, but I understood then that one cannot rely wholly on machines.

I prefer shorter sentences and simple language to convey complex subjects—this helps humans and search machines understand me. I make mistakes at times and utilize complex terms in an attempt to sound smart, but that confounds everyone reading my work. And let’s not forget, everyone types in incorrect keys when they become overexcited with a new AI project!

Conclusion

AI for automation is beginning a new era of pace, accuracy, and new ideas in companies. Intelligent machines assist with routine processes in customer service, supply chains, and numerous other processes, and reveal useful information buried in big datasets. AI can at times appear magical, but it’s not; we have to use our care, intelligence, and imagination to utilize it wisely.

I firmly believe that utilizing AI and automation intelligently in companies will generate new ideas, but companies that don’t utilize them intelligently will lag behind. Naturally, mistakes will occur, such as forgetting an important detail or utilizing outdated information in the system, but that comes with being human. Ultimately, best results occur when humans and machines work in concert, with one supporting the other in a changing environment.
